A lot of the coverage from Hurricane Harvey is not focused on the massive devastation but rather the positive aspects of the hurricane. They presented several stories of people who were traveling from states away because they felt they had a civic duty to help. People are taking their trucks and boats and going to help the people in Texas. They don’t know what they are going to do when they get there but they just want to help.
Community, comradery and caring for people for no reason other than because it is the right thing to do. When these people arrive in Texas and simply show love to the people suffering, everyone who gathered for this purpose had been significantly uplifted. We have so much power as humans when we choose to selfless, help and love. We all underestimate our power to impact people, no matter who you are. The most universal way to do so is by selflessly caring. By doing this you can positively impact and affect someone’s life. Even people who were somewhat prejudiced against certain races, when someone of that race reached out their hand and helped them that prejudice vanished. It is unfortunate that it takes something as devastating as this hurricane for people to feel this call to action.
